Recorded Livingston Studios London 1981 Basic track was just Bob Henrit and myself - Bob in the Studio live room playing drums - me in the Control room playing guitar/engineering/producing. Dave Wintour came in later and played bass. Rod Argent came in too to add some Hammond Organ but I wanted to still keep it guitar based. Rod & Jim Rodford added some backing vocals with me. This arrangement forms the basis of what we still do today with the JV Band - a bit different to the Argent original in that it doesn't rely so much on keyboards, and works well with the 3 piece line-up...

'I produced a lot of bands/acts during the 80s. Some were great - some not so good.

I was doing a gig shortly after completing one of the "not so good" experiences when somebody remarked that "I bet he can't do Zep stuff". OK, I thought. and the next week I took my mobile studio to a village hall in the Yorkshire Dales and began recording 15 of my favourite Zep tracks.

The current JV Band lineup from that time - John Clark (Drums) & Dave Kinley (Bass) were playing in the hall and I was in the truck playing guitar, doing a guide vocal, producing and engineering!

My friend Neil Gowland came along & played some acoustic guitar... The whole thing was finished in a couple of weeks. I really enjoyed the challenge, both as an artist and as a producer. I think we did a good job - but then I had great players with the right attitude involved.

I don't really mind now, when I hear criticism of me from the band from the 'not so good' experience - after all you can't polish a turd...' JV
